Youngman - innovative solutions for working at height

Youngman, based at Maldon in Essex, is recognised throughout the world as a leading provider of innovative access equipment and systems, including access towers, staging, access platforms, specialist ladders and bespoke access systems for demanding aerospace, military and petrochemical applications.

Youngman products are sold in more than 50 countries around the world with key markets in Europe, Australasia, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Standard products are available for sales or rental through authorised distributors and retailers, while bespoke solutions are developed directly for individual customers.

Supporting an international network of thousands of customers is a demanding task, as Commercial Director, Chris Owen explains.

“Our engineering, service and field sales teams make regular visits to customers or distributors overseas to give advice on the safest access solutions, so it’s very convenient having London Stansted Airport so close by. We also have large numbers of customers from around the world visiting our training centre at Maldon. Working at height is governed by stringent safety regulations, so customer training is an integral part of our business. The reach and convenience of the Essex transport infrastructure helps to make our training centre easily accessible for both UK and export customers.”

The Essex logistics infrastructure is important to Youngman’s business. The company uses around 4,500 tonnes of aluminium extrusion every year, that’s second only to the automotive and aerospace industries, so a smooth supply chain is essential.  “We make over 45,000 deliveries a year,” says Chris Owen.

“The proximity of the A12 trunk road and the M25 motorway gives us access to the national motorway network for our UK supplies and deliveries. There is good road access to the port of Felixstowe for our container shipments.”

In line with the company’s green credentials, recycling of aluminium and packaging waste also takes place locally, minimising the environmental impact.

As a forward looking company Youngman is continuing to invest for growth. “We carry out continuous research to ensure that our products exceed industry and safety standards,” says Chris Owen.

“We have also invested in robotic welding cells, the first of their kind in Europe, to give us greater flexibility in times of fluctuating demand.”

With that commitment to the future, Youngman looks set to take advantage of the Essex transport and logistical infrastructure to maintain its international leadership.
