Excellent education system
Essex has an excellent education system, with a number of outstanding selective schools regularly featuring in the top ten English state schools. As well as their primary academic focus, many forward-thinking Essex schools have introduced departments specialising in technology and engineering.
More than 90 Essex secondary and primary schools are actively engaged in curriculum links with schools in Jiangsu, China and 34 are teaching Mandarin.
The Anglo-European School at Ingatestone offers baccalaureate type courses and provides pupils with a strong European dimension to their education.
There are 4 state secondary schools in Essex in which 100% of the pupils at the end of Key Stage 4 achieved the Level 2 threshold - equivalent to five GCSEs at grade C or above - including English and maths GCSEs in 2009.
