Quality of Life
Rich heritage
Essex is also a county with a long proud history, celebrated in its many museums, castles, churches and historic houses. Colchester, for example, is Britain’s oldest recorded town and was the first Roman capital of Britain.
Almost three quarters of the county is beautiful unspoilt countryside, with rolling farmland, ancient woodlands like Hatfield Forest or Epping Forest, thatched cottages, timber-framed farmhouses and windmills.
