The new Royal Opera House Production Campus at Thurrock opened in 2008, followed by the National Skills Academy for the Live Performing Arts in 2009.

Essex is now a destination of choice for national and international events such as the annual V Festival at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, which continues to be one of the highlights of the country’s summer music scene attracting more than 150,000 people.
