Vanguard Healthcare Solutions has established itself as the UK’s leading provider of mobile surgery and endoscopy facilities, both to the NHS and to private healthcare organisations. With nearly 50 mobile clinical facilities at its disposal, the company has an extensive fleet that provides a diverse range of service capabilities.

The company’s fleet of mobile healthcare facilities offers additional clinical capacity across a range of general and specialist services. Their mobile facilities help to meet changing demand due to factors such as increased pressure on hospitals during the winter period or refurbishment works.  Through partnerships with healthcare providers, 250,000 procedures have been performed in their mobile healthcare facilities.

Becoming a service provider for the NHS

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions began in 1999 as part of Cardinal Healthcare. The mobile division underwent a management buyout from Cardinal in March 2002 and began trading as a separate entity – Vanguard Healthcare Solutions Ltd. By October 2004, the company had provided an innovative mobile cataract treatment service to NHS patients across the UK and was bought by Nuffield Health. By 2008, over 100,000 patients had been treated on Vanguard facilities, with the mobile division having become a key part of Nuffield’s service offering. It once again became an independent company in April 2009, following a management buyout from Nuffield Health.

In 2010, Vanguard launched a pan-European service, offering the company’s mobile services to healthcare organisations across a number of countries, including The Netherlands, Italy, France and Poland. It also became a member of the NHS Partners Network – the leading trade association for service providers working within the National Health Service.

Expanding in Essex

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions has developed a purpose-built, 6,600m2 transport and logistics facility at a former brownfield site in Manningtree, part of an expansion programme for the business. Formerly located in Colchester, the company wanted to expand in the area to maximise the excellent transport links whilst also safeguarding the jobs of their current employees.

Vanguard

“With a fleet of nearly 50 mobile healthcare units, and an active global logistics programme, we needed a purpose-built facility centrally located within a thriving business and local community. We’re delighted to have renovated the site at Manningtree and created such a high-quality business facility, which will offer employment opportunities to the local community.”

How INVEST Essex is assisting Vanguard Healthcare Solutions

INVEST Essex assisted the company with the site selection for the new facility, which will be home to 11 permanent members of staff and has the capacity to house the fleet of 50 mobile healthcare units.

Future plans for Vanguard Healthcare Solutions

The company is committed to investing in British business and has established a network of sales and marketing agents. It currently deploys mobile facilities at public and private hospitals across the UK and Europe.  It is expected that the move to the new facility will increase employment opportunities in the Manningtree and general Essex area, and Vanguard Healthcare Solutions is committed to recruiting from the local talent pool.

With the assistance of INVEST Essex, Vanguard hopes to contact and begin working with Essex hospitals providing their mobile healthcare facilities in the area. INVEST Essex has introduced the company to members of the Colchester Institute, who can aid with the planning and carrying out of an apprenticeship programme.
