Invest ESSEX, the Inward Investment agency for Essex, is seeking a Location Services Manager to work within its Inward Investment and Business Support team to drive economic growth and attract new investment into Essex.

The post will be responsible for managing inward investment and business growth initiatives, leading relationships with businesses and developing the established account management programme with a particular focus on manufacturing and technology companies.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience of delivering business support or inward investment initiatives and an understanding of the economic development landscape.

Working within Invest ESSEX you will promote Essex as an outstanding business destination. Enabling existing and potential investors to make the most of our strategic location, thriving business environment and the quality of the business opportunity in Essex. This comprehensive service provides strategic, confidential advice and practical support to companies wanting to establish or grow within the county.

You will have extensive contact with businesses, business organisations, intermediaries, service providers and the public sector at a senior level, incorporating end-to end management of the client project lifecycle. It is estimated that around 60-70% of your time will be out of office actively engaging with business and targeting new investment opportunities.

You will be client focused and tenacious with the ability to develop creative solutions for clients. Though working as part of a team, the role involves working flexibly and independently so a proactive and results driven approach is essential.

Job Purpose

To engage with a range of potential and existing foreign and UK owned businesses, agents and intermediaries to help build and maintain a strong pipeline of inward investment and business growth prospects. Effectively account manage these enquiries and convert them into projects and inward investment successes.

A critical aspect of the role is to maintain a good understanding of the challenges affecting business competitiveness and plans for growth. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate sector specific knowledge and strong awareness of general economic intelligence in order to support client value propositions.

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a business development position is essential
  • Knowledge/background in a manufacturing or technology sector is highly desirable
  • Experience in an account manager/project manager role is highly desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in a business, economic development or business intermediary related function is essential
  • Knowledge of the Essex economy and sectors key to future inward investment prospects is desirable
  • Experience in working in or with private sector businesses, including an understanding of the issues and factors that influence business decision makers and the growth of business sectors
  • Customer focussed and client driven, effective at using professional networks
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and confident written and oral communication skills
  • Sound working knowledge of social media in a commercial/professional environment
  • Flexible approach to assess and balance workload, ability to prioritise effectively on own initiative and take responsibility for decisions relating to own work
  • Analytical skills – being able to find solutions to complex problems and explain them clearly with the ability to apply creative thinking to solve challenging problems
  • Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility client led projects as well as to work as part of a team
  • Understanding of the issues which are critical to senior business decision makers, particularly in relation to those decisions that lead to new investment and growth
  • Excellent knowledge of IT resources, including MS Office, property databases and customer relationship management tools
  • Ability to undertake UK travel (must have access to own transport) and sometimes overseas (passport holder).
